GB Type Approval Explained
For a vehicle to be legally registered and used on UK roads, it must meet GB type approval requirements.
This ensures that any vehicle conversion, body, equipment or modification is structurally sound, compliant with legislation and safe for operational use.
MIS Conversions holds its own in-house GB type approval capabilities, allowing us to certify vehicles directly. This means faster turnaround, fewer delays and full control over quality and compliance throughout the build.
N1 Enhancement (Panel Vans up to 3.5t)
N1 Enhancement applies to standard panel vans up to 3.5 tonnes.
We ensure that:
- All equipment and components meet approval requirements
- Any electrical, structural or interior modification is compliant
- Safety systems, lighting and mandatory equipment meet legislation
- Weight distribution and payload are within legal thresholds
This ensures the finished vehicle remains road legal and safe under its revised configuration.
N2 Enhancement (3.5t – 7.5t Vehicles)
For heavier commercial vehicles, N2 Enhancement covers the compliance of all modifications. This includes more stringent checks on weight, permissible loads, bodywork changes, towing and lighting standards.
Our compliance team ensures every build meets the full scope of N2 legislation before certification.
NSSTA Approvals for Chassis Builds
MIS Conversions also holds NSSTA (National Small Series Type Approval) for multiple chassis types.
This allows us to:
- Build bodies (tipper van conversions, dropside vehicles, Luton van bodies etc.) on incomplete chassis
- Approve them in-house to GB standards
- Avoid external IVA testing for each vehicle
- Produce consistent, repeatable and legally compliant fleet builds
