MIS Conversions Proud to Join Openreach and The EV Café in Showcasing the Future of Fleet Electrification

MIS Conversions is proud to join Openreach, The EV Café and industry partners in a year-long initiative exploring the future of fleet electrification, sharing insights and expertise from delivering over 1,000 specialist vehicle conversions for Openreach.

Having already delivered over 1,000 specialist vehicle conversions for Openreach, MIS Conversions is proud to be part of an exciting new collaboration sharing the story behind one of the UK’s largest electric fleet transitions.

We’re delighted to be joining Openreach, The EV Café and seven other specialist industry partners in a new year-long initiative exploring the innovation, collaboration and practical expertise behind Openreach’s transition to electric vehicles.

With more than 7,500 electric vehicles already operating across the UK, Openreach is making significant progress towards a more sustainable fleet. But behind every vehicle is a network of people, suppliers and specialists working together to make sure the transition works in practice.

For MIS Conversions, it’s a story we’re particularly proud to be part of.

A Partnership Built on Practical Solutions

Our relationship with Openreach is already well established, with our team having delivered over 1,000 specialist vehicle conversions to support engineers working across the UK’s telecommunications network.

From medium-sized service vans to larger specialist vehicles, our work has focused on ensuring Openreach engineers have the equipment, storage and facilities they need to carry out their roles safely and efficiently.

Every vehicle conversion is designed around the practical requirements of the people using the vehicles, incorporating features such as bespoke van racking systems, ancillary electrical installations, onboard heating and welfare facilities, including microwaves and hot water boilers.

Working closely with Openreach and their fleet provider, Holman, we’ve continued to review and develop vehicle specifications as operational requirements evolve.

It’s this experience that makes our involvement in the new initiative particularly meaningful. We understand first-hand the importance of getting the details right when delivering specialist vehicles at scale.

Supporting the Next Chapter of Fleet Electrification

Transitioning a fleet of more than 23,000 vehicles towards electric is no small undertaking.

For Openreach, the challenge goes beyond introducing electric vans. Engineers still need vehicles that are reliable, practical and equipped to support their working day, whether they’re carrying out installations, maintaining infrastructure or responding to faults.

As fleets move towards electric, vehicle conversions must continue to meet these operational requirements while considering factors such as payload, equipment integration, onboard power and efficient use of space.

At MIS Conversions, our approach has always been to build vehicles around the people who use them.

With our in-house design, manufacturing, electrical and installation capabilities, we understand how important it is to bring different areas of expertise together to deliver consistent, fit-for-purpose solutions.

Our experience supporting large-scale fleet programmes reinforces something we believe strongly: successful vehicle conversions start with understanding the job the vehicle needs to do.

Sharing the Story Behind the Vehicles

Over the next 12 months, The EV Café will work alongside Openreach and its eight industry partners to explore the challenges, successes and lessons learned throughout its electrification journey.

Alongside MIS Conversions, the partnership includes Allstar Business Solutions, Clayton Power, Geotab, Kelling Group, Holman, Stewart Signs and myenergi.

Each organisation brings its own specialist expertise, helping to demonstrate how different elements of fleet operations must work together to make large-scale electrification possible.

The series will explore everything from charging infrastructure and fleet technology to specialised bespoke vehicle conversions, onboard power and the practical challenges of keeping thousands of engineers moving.

Importantly, it won’t just focus on the successes. The initiative aims to share the real experiences, decisions and challenges encountered along the way, providing valuable insights for other organisations considering their own transition to electric.

Proud of Our People and Our Partnerships

At MIS Conversions, we’re proud of the relationships we’ve built with our customers and the work our teams deliver every day.

From the initial design and planning stages through to manufacturing, installation and delivery, every vehicle conversion is the result of people working together to create something that performs in the real world.

Our ongoing work with Openreach is a great example of this approach, combining technical expertise, collaboration and a shared commitment to delivering vehicles that meet the demands of a busy national fleet.

Being invited to contribute to The EV Café’s year-long initiative is an exciting opportunity to shine a light on the work taking place behind the scenes and the people helping to make it happen.

We’re looking forward to sharing more about our involvement, celebrating the partnerships that make projects of this scale possible and contributing to the wider conversation about the future of electric vehicle fleet conversions.
